Karthi,the brand ambassador of the Fetal Care Research Foundation and the Lysosomal Storage Disease Support Society came forward to spread awareness about rare diseases at World Rare Disease Day held at Chennai. Karthi talking at the event said “It gives me great pleasure to have been given the opportunity to represent this cause. I realise there is a lot of awareness required about the same, a lot of research to be done, and a lot of infrastructure and support which needs to be provided. I am willing to support the cause as and when it is required.”
Doctors say that a disease is termed rare if it affects less than one person in 2000. As per estimates, in India with a population of about 1.1 billion, approximately 3.3 crore patients are affectedwith such disorders.
