DMK president M. Karunanidhi, often accused by PMK president Ramadoss of being the ‘origin’ of liquor-taking habit in the State, has said that if voted to power during next year’s Assembly elections, the DMK would implement total prohibition in the State.
“If the DMK is voted to power, action would be initiated to implement total prohibition in the State to pave way for a welcome change in society and development of its people. As liquor is available easily all over the State, poor people including farmers and labourers (in some cases, even students) take to the destructive habit of liquor in-take and thereby destroying their respective families.
“We come across news reports almost on a daily basis of women, men and even children dying of this evil habit. Question obviously is asked by people as to why can’t total prohibition be implemented in the State. I assure that if the DMK is voted to power in next year’s Assembly elections, action would be initiated to implement total prohibition,” Karunanidhi’s statement said thus.
