A monkey offering deep and sincere prayers to the deity of Goddess Badrakali Amman at the famed Vaitheeswaran Koil in Nagapattinam has caused huge excitement among the people in the surrounding localities.
The monkey is said to be on ‘fast’ for the past 2 days and hasn’t eaten or drunk anything, similar to the kind of ‘fast’ observed by humans who pray to the Almighty for their wishes to be fulfilled. A temple dedicated to Lord Vaithiyanatha Swamy is situated in Vaitheeswaran Koil, Nagapattinam which happens to be one of the ‘Navagraha’ prominent temples in the State.
The North side of the temple has a separate temple for Goddess Badrakali Amman. A monkey was spotted on Saturday, crying and praying in front of the Amman deity. Devotees coming to the temple offered milk and fruits to the monkey which didn’t even make an attempt to eat it but continued to remain in a position of deep prayer, leaning against the wall in front of the deity.
The ‘praying monkey’ has become quite famous in the locality as people from the nearby localities are thronging the temple to have a look at it. In the meantime, a short video clip showing the monkey praying has also been uploaded on social networking sites!
