Pattali Makkal Katchi’s (PMK) founder-president Ramadoss has announced that his party would be boycotting the Presidential polls to be held today across the country.
Arrangements have been put in place to elect the 14th President of the country in which MPs and MLAs would be casting their votes in all the State Legislative Assemblies and in Parliament. BJP has fielded Ram Nath Koving, former Bihar Governor who was also an active RSS man, while the Congress and other opposition parties have jointly named former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar against Kovind.
Kovind reportedly enjoys the support of all factions of the AIADMK while the DMK has made it clear that it would be voting in favour of Meira Kumar. PMK, which had not said anything about whom it would support, opened up only yesterday, a day before the Presidential polls.
Ramadoss told newsmen that the party would boycott the presidential polls as it wanted to register its opposition to the Centre’s continuing neglect in setting up a Cauvery Management Board. This means that PMK’s lone Lok Sabha M.P. and its youth wing president Anbumani won’t be casting his vote in today’s presidential elections.
