HC pulls up MLA Vetrivel for wasting Court time, imposes Re.1 lakh penalty


The High Court of Madras pulled up MLA Vetrivel for unnecessarily wasting the Court’s precious time by preferring appeals and imposed a penalty of Re.1 lakh on him while quashing his appeal and clearing the way for the conduct of the general council meeting by the united AIADMK today in Chennai.

The much-awaited general council meeting of the AIADMK, the first such meeting after the unification of the factions of the party led by EPS and OPS who are now respectively the chief-minister and the deputy chief-minister, is to commence this morning (Tuesday) in a grand manner at the Srivaru Venkatachalapathy Thirumana Mandapam in Vaanagaram off Chennai.

2,780 general council members, 250 working committee members and other MLAs, MPs, Ministers and office-bearers of the party have been invited to take part in the meeting. Vetrivel, a supporter of jailbird Dinakaran, filed a petition with the High Court of Madras seeking a ban on the meeting. The High Court quashed the petition after which Vetrivel filed an appeal on the same day.

Pulling up Vetrivel for wasting the precious time at the Court’s disposal, the High Court quashed his appeal and imposed a penalty of Re.1 lakh on him.
