DMK MLAs met under the leadership of Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin, also the party’s working president, to chalk out a strategy to be adopted during the ensuing session of the State Legislative Assembly which convenes today.
The last Session of the Assembly commenced on 16th March when Finance Minister Jayakumar presented the fiscal budget for 2017-18. After the Budget was presented, Speaker Dhanapal convened the House Business Committee to decide about the duration of the session. It was decided that other businesses would be taken up in the House on 23rd March.
However, the Session was prorogued without conducting the scheduled business after which the DMK pressed for convening a Session to hold detailed debates about grans to various Departments. Stalin ascribed the delay in convening of the Session to the ruling AIADMK faction’s fear that the Govt. might be toppled in case a no-trust motion is put to vote.
After Boopathy took over as the Assembly Secretary from Jamaludeen on 01st June, it was decided that the next session of the State Assembly would be held from 14-19 June. The DMK MLAs discussed about the issues to be raked up in the Assembly including the ‘horse-trading’ during the ‘Koovathur resort’ stay of ruling party MLAs which is sure to make it a volatile Session.
