Union Women & Child Development Minister and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi has said that men are primarily responsible for almost all sorts of violent activities taking place in the country.
The Centre has launched an initiative wherein it interacts with the people of the country via Facebook and chooses 100 women who have lent superlative service to their neighbourhood and the society. As part of this initiative, Maneka met the people via Facebook and answered questions raised by them.
Replying to a particular query, Menaka, daughter-in-law of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, said that men appear to be the root-cause of all the violent activities taking place in the country and elsewhere. “The recently reported incident of a Saudi Arabian staffer raping the mother-daughter duo at his Gurgaon residence for more than four months has sent the Govt. in a thinking mode as to what to do to protect home-maids from facing violence.
“We have sought a detailed report from all the State governments about the action taken to implement the provisions of Violence against Women Act, 2015,” she said. On another note, the Minister wondered why the Indian print and television media was hell-bent on publishing/broadcasting news against women in a sensational manner.
