Rukmini Vijayakumar

Being part of an ensemble cast with many big names, Rukmini Vijayakumar is all gung-go sharing screen space with legendary superstar Rajinkanth in his upcoming “Kochadaiyaan”. We caught up with Rukmini, who shared her experience on being part of this big release. Here is an excerpt from the interview.

Hi Rukmini seems like there is a new dance project lined up for you.

Yes, I am just choreographing my next show; the dates have not been finalized yet.

We would love to have a ticket.

Definitely you should come.

So tell us how easy it is to balance a movie like Kochadaiyaan directed by Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya, written by K S Ravikumar, starring Rajinikanth in a 3D avatar combined with AR Rahman’s music and Rajiv Menon’s cinematography.

Yes, I am part of something really huge at this point in my life. Soundarya has been very friendly, and open to new ideas. I am certain she is responsible for making me so comfortable working alongside such a star crew. On the sets she is just like another friend and not a celebrity’s daughter as most of us would see her otherwise.

Sounds good, your debut Bomallattam in 2008 was soon followed by a role in Gandhi Krishna’s romantic film Ananda Thandavam a year later, after that we never saw you for three years and look here you are ready and set to return with a bang.

Haha, in the first place I never wanted to be seriously involved in films, my dance performances kept me busy. As you know I also run a dance company.

Critics say you have been choosy with your movies?

Yes, I have been to a certain extent since dance has been a bigger part of my life all these years.

Fabulous, industry insiders tell us that Sneha was supposed to play the role of Rajinikanth’s sister and Sarath Kumar’s wife in the flick, is it true?

I had no clue about Sneha being a part of the film earlier. I am playing Rajini sir’s sister in the film. Soundarya approached me with the offer a few days ago and I immediately agreed.

The movie is 3D; you must have had a different experience all together?

Technologically it is so different than the movies I have been a part of. I am a newcomer and to be exposed to technology early on is really a great blessing. Above all, I am thrilled to be playing Rajni’s sister in the film that is going to be a 3D movie.

Thank you for your time, everyone is waiting for your release, our best wishes to you.
