Karthika thinks she is nowhere close to her mothers image

Karthika debuted with Josh alongside Naga Chaitanya but the flick did not do much damage to box office she followed it up with cinematographer Santosh Sivan’s acting debut in the Mollywood film Makaramanju, directed by renowned filmmaker Lenin Rajendran.

Looking at her photographs from the film on the Internet, director K V Anand approached her for his Ko opposite Jeeva

We caught up with her for a chit chat.

It is surely is a blessing to be born in an illustrious family; we don’t need to mention about Radha ma’am Ambika ma’am who were charming divas of south Indian cinema during the 80s.

I’ve grown up in a family which has given south Indian cinema two of its top leading ladies. My mom has acted as heroine opposite living legends like Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan. Although I grew up in Mumbai and away from movies I was more interested in completing my business management degree and joining my dad’s business. The acting bug bit me all of a sudden and now, I’m giving it a sincere try.
How has it being working with Jeeva and director Anand.

The best thing that happened to me was getting the heroine’s role in Ko and working with a committed director like Anand sir. He is so focused and convinced me with a role that carries the story forward. I play a character, Renuka, who is an investigative journalist in the print media, and, with the help of her photographer played by Jeeva, gets a scoop which leads to a series of problems. It was a delight working with Jeeva, who went out of his way to make me comfortable.

Ko surely looks promising, you must be having expectations from the movie too.

Yes it is a beautiful entertainer with great songs by Harris Jayaraj. My favorite is a song we shot in Norway. Ko is definitely going to be a huge hit and I’m sure this will be my big ticket to stardom.

Wow, that sounds good. We recently heard that Mr. Danny Boyle gave you a call, please update us on the events, your fans are waiting.

It is just a rumor. Santoshji told me that Danny Boyle saw Makaramanju and was impressed with my performance in a dual role (as Raja Ravi Varma’s muse and Goddess Urvasi.)
Directors will surely come searching again we are sure, your surely have carried your moms charm onscreen well.

Thanks for your compliments I leave everything to my mom. She knows best as she has done over 200 films. But please don’t compare me with her. It will be a miracle of sorts if I do 20 films. The times have changed.

Thank you for your time Karthika. We wish you a Happy Pongal in advance.
