Ace director Bharathiraja launched his latest directorial venture Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum recently in Theni. The star-studded event was attended by ace directors such as K. Balachander, Balumahendra and Maniratnam. Even before the film was officially launched, Bharathiraja had do deal with problems aplenty.
Bharathiraja’s first choice Parthiban, who was to play the hero in the film, was replaced at the very last minute. In fact, much to the surprise of many in the industry, Bharathiraja roped in director-actor Ameer saying that the latter looked ‘younger’ than the former to play the role he had visualized in the film. On his part, Parthiban simply said that he could not comment on this.
Parthiban decided not to take the issue to the Producers’ Council or the Nadigar Sangam apparently due to Bharathiraja’s stature as one of the senior-most directors in action. However, Bharathiraja’s decision to opt for Iniya instead of Priyamani, the original choice, still needs lot of explanation. In fact, Priyamani was introduced in films by Bharathiraja in his Kangalal Kaidhu Sei many years back.
The national-award winning actress was quite hopeful of making an impression in Tamil with this film and felt heart-wrecked when she heard that she had been replaced by a rank newcomer Iniya. Bharathiraja took the decision to replace Priyamani with Iniya after attending the audio launch of Iniya’s Sargunam-directed Vaagai Sooda Vaa. The director was reportedly impressed by Iniya’s performance show on the trailer screened at the venue.
When Bharathiraja called Priyamani to inform her of the decision to replace her, the latter got to know of it and reportedly avoided talking to him.
Aren’t we unlucky as we have probably missed out watching a blouse-less Priyamani on-screen?
