She made a grand debut early last year in the Dhanush-starrer Aadukalam which incidentally won for Dhanush his first-ever national award for ‘best actor. Directed by Vetrimaran, Aadukalam had the perfect role of an Anglo-Indian girl’s character which suited Tapasee’s hi-fi looks. She also had another release in Vandhaan Vendraan opposite Jiiva which released late last year.
Tapasee Pannu a.k.a. Tapasee appears to be concentrating a lot more in Telugu films than in Tamil where she debuted. One more little bit of information that the readers might be interested in is that while she acts in ultra-glamourous roles in Telugu, she appears to be rather contend in doing ‘homely’ roles in Tamil. Except Tapasee, nobody else can explain the paradox behind it.
One reason cited for Tapasee not signing Tamil films is the fact that most of the directors approaching her with new scripts are not so fluent in English to be able to narrate the script to her (Hindi is completely ruled out, though) while Tapasee is unable to converse with them in Tamil confidently enough. This language barrier makes it difficult for the actress to listen to many scripts which would help her to accept/reject them.
In order to try out her luck in Bollywood, Tapasee is said to have taken a liking to ‘zero-size’ phenomenon followed so steadfastly by leading Bollywood heroines like Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. She reportedly underwent a strict fitness regime and has acquired a thin figure, which is a far cry from the ‘slightly bubbly look’ that she sported last year.
Tamil film makers have historically preferred heroines with some flesh around their waist and are, as such, unwilling to sign up Tapasee for the time being!
