Reports emanating from kolly circles say that Nayanthara has been offered a whopping Rs.2.5 crores to star in Vidya Balan’s role in the planned Tamil remake of the Bollywood super hit film The Dirty Picture (TDP). The film, which released last year, not only turned out to be a commercial success all over the country but also was a critics’ delight and further enhanced Vidya’s reputation as an actress of substance.
It also fetched Vidya Balan her first-ever national award for ‘best actress’ for her portrayal of the late ‘Silk’ Smitha, Kollywood’s eternal ‘item girl’. It was produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Milan Luthria. The film is already being remade in Kannada with Pakistani actress Veena Malik playing the central role and a Malayalam film is also made on the life of Smitha staring the sizzling Sana Khan in the lead.
Sources close to Nayan, however, refuse to confirm that the actress had been offered Rs.2.5 crores by Ekta Kapoor to star in the Tamil remake of the film. Vidya’s stature as actress increased by leaps and bounds after the film’s release and it’d be no wonder if the courageous and curvaceous Nayan takes up Ekta’s tempting offer. If Nayan agrees to it, she would become the highest-paid actress ever in South Indian films.
Nayan is said to be ‘sitting’ on the offer as she feels it might not be in accordance with the ‘image’ she has carefully built up so far in Tamil films. Whether she would be agreeing to star in the film remains to be seen in the coming days.
