From the wilderness, Lakshmi Rai has all of a sudden become one of the most sought-after actresses in Tamil and Telugu films. Thanks to back-to-back hit films in Mankatha and Kanchana (where she is paired up opposite Raghava Lawrence as the heroine), the Lakshmi finds herself in demand in Kollywood and Tollywood.
Her role in the Ajit-starrer Mankatha was widely appreciated though it wasn’t an over-powering one. She looked a million dollars in the film, say critics and movie-goers. The successive hits have given Rai the confidence that she can sustain the momentum and become one of the leading actresses in Tamil films.
Lakshmi Rai, who was linked to India’s cricket captain Dhoni prior to the latter’s rumour, is said to be trying her best to make her debut in Bollywood. Trisha tried it last year and failed miserably. Asin is somehow pulling along. As part of her effort to entice Bollywood producers and directors to cast her in their films, the lanky Rai has recently agreed to be the ‘Brand Ambassadress’ of the Kerala Celebrity Cricket Team.
Speaking about her new role, Rai says: “I have always been an ardent cricket fan. Right from my school-days, I used to indulge in playing baseball and volleyball whenever I find time. I’m quite happy to be propping up and promoting the Kerala Celebrity Cricket Team. I’m sure it’d prove it’s worth when the action on the filed commences soon,” she concludes.
