Actress Hansika (dropping the surname, she wants to be referred to only as Hansika) has gone on record saying that she is not merely a ‘glamourous doll’ but is an actress who knows about the nuances of acting. “The awards I have won for my Telugu films are ample proof of my acting credentials,” says Hansika.
Bubbly Hansika’s first couple of films Tamil in the form of ‘Maappillai’ and ‘Engeyum Kaadhal’ has turned out to be pretty ordinary grossers at the box-office. In fact, ‘Maappillai’ was a huge disaster at the box-office. The failure of these films, though, hasn’t deterred Hansika from being booked for new films by the producers and directors.
Hansika is said to have been irritated by a report in the press that she stays afloat in Kollywood thanks mainly to her glamour which oozes in every film. “It’s pretty agonizing to be commented that I don’t know how to act. I have won as many as 14 awards for a particular tele-serial in Hindi some time back and also bagged the ‘best actress’ award for my performance in the Telugu film ‘Desamudra’.
“How can an actress be conferred with awards without knowing the basics of acting? I’m here (in the industry) on my own terms and have completed 15 films as on date. I’m a hard-worker and as and when my films ‘Velayudham’ with Vijay and ‘Oru Kal Oru Kannadi’ with Udhayanidhi hit the silver screens, people would get to know more of me as an actress,” concludes Hansika.
