Anurag Kashyap might not be a known name in the Kollywood circle. But the man does have enough reckoning in Bollywood to be considered among the best filmmakers in the contemporary era. His take on the 1993 Mumbai blasts in the controversial flick Black Friday and the 2009 hit Dev D stand a class apart for movie aficionados.
Recently Anurag was in news to remake the critically acclaimed Kollywood flick Subramaniapuram for the Bollywood market with Dirty Picture siren Vidya Balan’s name being considered for the lead. While he is yet to make a call on the project, Anurag has come out with a new movie titled the Gangs of Wasseypur (GOW). The GOW producer pays a tribute to the trio from Madurai in Bala, Ameer and Sasikumar as he has included their names in the opening credits of GOW. Speaking on cinema from South he quips, “Chennai is the birthplace of a new language in cinema. Filmmakers are blessed to enjoy an audience that are the most evolved than any other place in India.” He also mentioned that Aaranya Kaandam was his hot favorite of 2011 and Vikram starrer Sethu, Kaadhal Kondein, Paruthiveeran, Subramaniapuram and Naan Kadavul are unforgettable movies that have inspired him ever more.
We welcome you Anurag – our new Kollywood fan…. 🙂
