Vijay:Chinese liked the comic portions in Kaavalan a lot

Ilayathalapathy Vijay left for Shanghai city in the People’s Republic of China over the last weekend to be present on the occasion of the screening of his latest film ‘Kaavalan’ at the Film Festival being held there. Incidentally, ‘Kaavalan’ happens to be the lone entry from the Tamil film industry to the Festival.

The Vijay-Asin starrer was screened with English and Chinese sub-titles and was watched by a huge crowd comprising mostly Chinese nationals, informs Vijay who said he felt very fortunate to be present in the land of ‘Jackie Chan’. “The Chinese fans appear to like the comic portions in Kaavalan a lot; the way they clapped and enjoyed those sequences was a surprise to me,” said Vijay.

“In fact, they seemed to like each and every sequence in the film and were very open in their appreciation. In particular, I liked the way they loved the comic portions. The last 20 minutes moved the entire audience as I could see tears welling up in their eyes. The moment the film ended, there was a standing ovation as all of them stood up and clapped for a few seconds,” said Vijay, looking visibly happy.

Later, speaking amid the audience, Vijay said that it was the first time that he participated in an international film festival and said, “The response to this film is a classic example that cinema transcends the barriers of languages and countries and reaches out to the public. When the audience congratulated me by addressing me as ‘Bhumi’ (the name of his character in the film), I really felt happy; it’s an unforgettable experience for me.

“I feel proud to have been in the land of Jacike Chan, who has a huge number of fans in India an in particular in Tamil Nadu. I’m happy that one of my films are screened in Shanghai,” said Vijay and presented a memento to the organizing committee on behalf of the Nadigar Sangam.”
