Urumi— The Boy who wanted to kill Vasco Da Gama, is a period film set in the 15th century. It is about four youths who plan to kill Vasco Da Gama, the Portugese trader who came to Kozhikode and wanted to colonize India. Prior to this Vidya Balan has acted in Tamil industry doing roles in movie Run.

We had a chat with Vidya Balan and asked her about her upcoming release and her item number in Urumi.

Here is an excerpt.

How was your experience shooting for Santosh Sivan’s Urumi, We heard you gained weight during for the shoot?

“I know Malayali women are supposed to look voluptuous, but I didn’t gain weight for this. I’m completely thrilled, excited and ecstatic and will let my hair down and have fun. There’s a bit of belly dancing, Mohiniattam and even sword fighting in the

song. It’s completely different from what I have done so far. But I’d call it a special appearance more than an item number,” claims Vidya.

It seems you have a preference for sarees.

To which she replied,

“I love wearing sarees, especially the Kanjeevaram. It makes me feel sexy and sensuous. But I wear jeans with long shirts all the time. Even while promoting Paa, I wore casuals,” says Vidya.

Do you feel there’s almost more responsibility and pressure for an actress after she receives an award?

“No. I look at each day as a new day and a new beginning”

“We wish her luck. Let see how Urumi turns out it may bring her a new beginning in Kollywood.”
