Director Gautham Menon has been busy promoting his next big Bollywood release in Ek Deewana Tha starring British model Amy Jackson and Prateik Babbar in the lead. The movie being a remake of his hit Tamil flick Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa has some compelling music from composer AR Rahman, marking it’s release on 17th February for the Valentine’s weekend.
Gautham has now confirmed another potential Hindi remake of his crime thriller Vettaiyadu Vilayadu that had Kamal Haasan donning the role of an Indian cop and Jyothika playing female lead. Menon is considering Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan for the Hindi Vettaiyadu Vilayadu with the rest of the crew yet to be announced. The original film had some notable music by composer Harris Jayaraj who partnered Gautham to deliver blockbusters like Minnale and Kaakha Kaakha, both undergoing the Bollywood remake rounds as Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein and Force respectively. On this new found interest of remaking his movies for the Bollywood market Gautham comments, “It is a good thing that our films are remade here and are doing well. But it does not mean that if South film remakes are doing well so I am here or it is the right time for me to make a film in Hindi. I have already made Ekk Deewana Tha in Tamil and Telugu and it did well. I was always looking to do this film in Hindi…I thought it would be universally appealing.”
If Kamal and Jo could be retained for the Bollywood version, that would have been wonderful.
