More than three decades back, she mesmerized audiences with her bubbly, youthful looks in veteran Bharathiraaja’s Padhinaaru Vayadhinilae and went on to win many awards and accolades before taking Bollywood by storm and staying on top for close to 15 years. ‘Queen Bee’ Sridevi is all set for a comeback with English Vinglish which narrates the tale of a housewife caught in U.S. who is forced to learn English the hard way.
Speaking to newsmen recently, Sridevi fielded many questions and answered them with usual panache. To a query as to whether she plans to bring her elder daughter Jhanvi into films, she said “She’s just a kid and is only 15 years old. For the time being, let her concentrate in her studies in which she is doing very well. Films can wait.”
Sridevi’s fans might recall that she debuted in films as a child artiste when she was barely 4 years old and had acted alongside the late and legendary MGR and Sivaji Ganesan and later on, paired up opposite Sivaji in a solitary film titled Sandhippu. However, the mother of two is now certain that she won’t ‘push’ either of her daughters into films and would wait for the appropriate time.
Unlike her contemporaries such as Radha who has made both her daughters Karthika and Thulasi actresses in films, Sridevi says she’s in no hurry to do so. “Though Jhanvi is getting many offers, it’s time for her to study. I take her to wherever I go, more as a daughter and a friend and not to bag film opportunities,” says Sri.
“I don’t want to push her into the world of arclights; let her study, grow up and decide for herself as to what she wants to do with her life,” concludes Sridevi.
