The Tamil Nadu Directors’ Association has stipulated that only those who enroll themselves as members with the Association would be allowed to work as assistant director/director in films, documentaries and short-films as assistant directors. Earlier, the condition to become a member was that the person should have worked as an assistant director at least in one film.
The condition has since been relaxed as even those who have made short-films can get the status of an ‘associate member’ with the Association and can receive the identity cards to be provided by it. The new arrangement has been put in place by the governing body of the association consisting of Bharathiraaja and Ameer. Details have been spelt out in a joint statement released to the pressby Ameer, Bharathiraaja and S.P. Jananathan.
“New rules and concessions for new members have been stipulated by the Association. As per new norm for assistant directors/directors to enroll themselves with the Association, the membership fee has been brought down from Rs.25,000 to Rs.15,000. We are also introducing an option ‘Associate Member’ who would have to pay Rs.2,500 to enroll himself as a member. Those who have made short films can become members in this manner.
“Students of Film Institutes run by Central Government and other State Governments and those who have made short-films, documentaries and won awards at international film festivals would be given concession in fee to become members. The new guidelines and rules would come into effect from 1st January onwards. Applications for membership can be received from the Association’s Office from 2nd January,” the statement said.
