Even as accolades are pouring in at director-actor Samuthirakkani’s doorstep for his convincing portrayal of a teacher who’s hell-bent on doing his services dutifully and making even the dullest of students shine in academics in the film Sattai, Samuthirakkani has taken all the praise in his stride.
Taking part in Jaya TVs En Thiraipayanam show , Samuthirakkani thanked all his teachers for ‘sculpting’ him to become what he is today. “The role of each of my teachers has been immense at every stage of my development as an artiste as well as an individual,” he said.
Samuthirakkani recalled his passion for cinema right from his school days when he once wrote a script of a film in the English note while studying in Class VII. “My teacher, when he saw that, neither beat me nor scolded me; instead, he asked me to read it out to all the students in the class. That act served as a great encouragement for my dreams to grow. Had my teacher punished me for that, I would’ve not become a script-writer,”
And in a rare display of his memory power, he did spell out the names of all his teachers right from Class I till he passed out of College and added that those teachers still remained his great friends, guides and mentors.
It may be recalled that two of those teachers played prominent roles in his earlier film Nadodigal.
“As far as I’m concerned, my teachers have always been my role models; they shall continue to remain my role models in the future too,” concluded Samu.
