Superstar Rajinikanth was, without doubt (as always), the main attraction at the function held in Chennai on 29th August in Chennai to mark the 14th annivesay of the regional television channel Jaya TV. The function was also held by the channel’s management to honour the music director-duo of M.S. Viswanathan and T.K. Ramamurthy, wherein the former was awarded the new title of Thirai Isai Chakravarthi by Amma.
Rajini spoke in his inimitable style, holding the audiences’ attention together. After wishing one and all, Rajini said “The function has given us (film world) to congratulate Jayalalitha formally after her landslide victory in last year’s Assembly elections. I wish all the staff and crew members of Jaya TV for completing 14 long years. I love many programmes aired on the channel. In particular, I loved Cho’s Engae Brahmanan which is not relayed nowadays.
“I’m happy that a function has been organized by Jaya TV to honour the legendary duo of MSV-TKR. When doyens such as Kamal Haasan and Ilaiyaraaja Sir have no words to praise them, what do I have to add? Though I didn’t star in many movies in MSV’s music, I felt amazed at the fan-followin he had in Bangalore. He happens to be the one who first sang for me in films.
“Legends like MSV and their work would always remain etched in the memory of people and music lovers even after they have left this world. Bollywood’s Shantaram, Dada Saheb Phalke, S.D. Burman and our own MGR, Sivaji Ganesan and Kannadasan are a few examples in this regard. Amma is a strong-willed person who is hardly affected by the success or failure in her career. I’m happy to be a contemporary during her rule in the State.
“I hope she continues to serve the people in the best possible manner. I wish her all the good things in the world and pray to the Almighty to keep her health intact and give her peace of mind for many more years to come,” concluded Rajini.
