Rajinikanth calls up Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi

Super Star Rajinikanth was discharged from the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, on Wednesday (June 15). Soon after reaching his place of residence, Rajini spoke with CM Jayalalitha to greet her and and said the state had been ‘saved’ after she won the April 13 assembly polls by a massive mandate, according to a Tamil Nadu government press release issued in Chennai.

Rajinikanth told Jayalalitha that he wanted to speak to her first after getting discharged from hospital and called her on phone, the statement said.

Jayalalithaa expressed happiness over his recovery and wanted him to come back to Chennai at the earliest, it said. Rajinikanth told the chief minister he has been discharged from hospital and he would return in a month and a half.

The actor’s wife Latha thanked the Chief Minister for her kind enquiries about the health of her husband when he was hospitalised, the release added.

Apparently to soothe ruffled feathers, a day after on Thursday Rajinikanth had called up DMK president M. Karunanidhi and apprised him of the improvement in his health. A DMK press release said here on Thursday that Rajinikanth contacted Karunanidhi over phone.

The release stated star had told Karunanidhi: “You have faced many ups and downs and vicissitudes in life. It is important that you take care of your health and you should not be unduly worried over anything.” The 88-year-old party patriarch has expressed happiness at the improvement of Rajnikanth’s health and hoped that he would return to Chennai soon., the release added.

Rajini’s tele-talk with both the leading politicians in Tamil Nadu is seen as a ‘balancing act’ of diplomacy.

The ailing star’s entire family - wife Latha, two daughters Aishwarya and Soundarya and sons-in-law Dhanush and Ashwin Ramkumar - are presently staying at a service apartment situated close to the premises of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

Rajini was admitted to the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, said to be the best in Asia to treat kidney-related ailments, more than a fortnight ago after spending two stints at a couple of hospitals in Chennai. Though Rajini has been discharged from the hospital, will remain in the island-country for another month and a half for further medical checkups.
