Prashanth, the 40-year old actor who debuted in the industry before the Vijays and Ajiths but somehow couldn’t make it to the top despite leading the pack in mid 90’s, has announced that he would be starting work soon on the sequel to his 1998 super-duper hit film Jeans.
Directed by Shankar and aided by Rahman’s musical numbers, the Prashanth-Aishwarya Rai starrer Jeans was a runaway hit when released in the late nineties. The sequel has been tentatively named as Jeans 2, Prashanth informs.
Prashanth hasn’t been going through best of phases professionally as his last couple of films in Ponnar Shankar and Mambattiyan bombed heavily at the box-office. The actor, who has a failed marriage to cope up with, was waiting for a good script and is now back in action with not one but two films.
Jeans 2 is likely to be produced and directed by Prashanth’s father Thiagarajan. Almost all the cast members of Jeans are likely to be cast in the sequel but it is highly doubtful as to whether Aishwarya Rai, who played the heroine in the original version, would agree to star in the sequel as she hasn’t yet donned the crease paint for any film since giving birth to her daughter Aaradhya two years back.
The film is expected to go to the floors in May-June next year, Prashanth has informed. Another film to star him in the lead role would be directed by a debutant director, he adds.
