Playback singer Chinmayi bags prestigious Nandi award for dubbing

Chinmayi bags Nandi Award

The winners of the ‘Nandi’ awards, considered very prestigious by the Telugu film industry and instituted by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, have just been announced. The award-winners include actresses Nithya Menon, Samantha, actor Balakrishna, director Sunil Kumar Reddy and playback singer Chinmayi.

Nithya Menon is the heroine of films like ‘180’ (Nootrenbadhu) and the recently released ‘Veppam’. Samantha played the heroine in the Telugu version of ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’ and also starred in last year’s ‘Baana Kathadi’. Chinmayi, the noted playback singer, has been selected for the ‘Nandi’ award not for her singing prowess but for her dubbing work in the film ‘Ye Maaya Chesaave’ (Telugu version of VTV).

Chinmayi, a regular on popular social networking sites, has penned her thoughts on winning the award. “I have come a long way in the industry. My dubbing work started a few years back with the film ‘Chillunnu Oru Kaadhal’ where I dubbed for Bhumika Chawla. Now I have dubbed for as many as 22 films. I definitely didn’t plan as I always wanted to shine as a playback singer.”

It was Chinmayi’s voice which infused life into actress Trisha’s character Jessie in the film ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’. “I love working with Gautham Menon from whom I learnt a lot of things. He taught me to be subtle,” says Chinmayi, who also lent her voice for actress Sameera Reddy in Menon’s ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’.

Let’s congratulate Chinmayi on the eve of winning the ‘Nandi’ award!
