Mammootty, megastar of Malayalam films, was so deeply hurt by the devastating blast in a fire-cracker manufacturing Unit in Tamil Nadu’s Sivakasi that soon after hearing about the mishap and the number of people who lost their lives and injured themselves, he immediately arranged to send medicines worth Rs.40 lakh to the place where the mishap occurred.
Sivakasi, as readers are aware, is a popular place in the State where fire-crackers are manufactured throughoug the year for distribution to the rest of the country and to many foreign countries during the festival season and during the inauguration of many public events and programmes. Ironically, it’s also the place which employs the maximum number of child and unskilled labourers.
At a time when none from the film industry or from the political fraternity have come forward to help the blast victims, Mammootty’s gesture has touched the hearts of many film-goers as well as the members of the public. Mammootty owns the Pathanjali Ayurvedic Company, which produces the Agnijith brand of medicines, which are very useful and effective in treating fire-related burns and injuries.
After the blast, doctors at the Sivakasi Government Hospital, where most of the victims are admitted and are undergoing treatment for burns of various degrees, got in touch with the Pathanjali Company for want of medicines to treat the burns. Mammootty, who turned 61 last Friday, immediately instructed the staff of his Company to dispatch medicines worth Rs.40 lakh to Sivakast free-of-cost.
He has also instructed the doctors that if need be, they shall inform the Company about their requirements and has told them not to worry about paying for the medicines.
It’s indeed an appreciable gesture by the megastar!
