The ‘homely girl’ has finally come out of the closet. Lakshmi Menon, touted by many as the next ‘Suhasini’ or ‘Revathi’ of Kollywood, has done something in her upcoming film which even established heroines in the past had shied away from doing. Lakshmi has locked lips with her hero Vishal in her upcoming film titled as Naan Sigappu Manithan, which is Vishal’s second film as a producer after last year’s Pandiya Naadu.
Lakshmi is on a roll in Tamil films with successive successful films in Sundara Pandian, Kumki, Kutti Puli and Pandiya Naadu in her kitty. She also has many films on hands opposite leading heroes and upcoming directors. Talking about the much-talked about lip-lock sequence with Vishal, Lakshmi says “As director Thiru felt that the sequence was an integral part of the script, I did it.
“I’m a professional actress and didn’t have any problems in doing so. I won’t have any problems in starring in such sequences in future too if the scripts demanded it. I’m happy to be going through a successful phase in my life. Criticisms are most welcome but negative criticisms are also part of the profession. If an artiste learns to take everything in his/her stride in a positive manner, it would help solve many a problem.
“When I was recently shooting in Kumbakonam, my fans looked excited; some of them came up to me to shake my hand. Recently, an engineer came to me while I was in Chennai and said that he was a great fan of my acting. He even said that he had hung many portraits of mine in his residence; I was touched when he showed my image in the backdrop of his mobile phone.
“I’m amazed at the love and affection Tamil fans have given me. I feel I’m lucky enough to have landed up in the Tamil film industry. I’m happy to continue to do good work and make my fans feel thrilled,” concluded Menon.
