Kerala CM honors Kamal

The Kerala Government is celebrating its biggest festival Onam and the state government has organised Tourism’ week celebrations, in 2010 from August 22nd to 28th at Tiruvananathapuram on a grand manner.V.S. Achuthanandan , the Chief Minister of Kerala inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp on 22 August 2010 at 6.30 pm at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. During the inaugural ceremony, versatile actor Kamal Haasan was honored for completing 50 years in cinema. Kamal Hassan has been in the industry for more than 50 years ever since he acted in ‘Kalathur Kannamma’ as a five year old.

This event was be attended by Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister Home, Vigilance & Tourism, M.A.Baby, Minister for Education & Culture, and V.Sivankutty MLA, Chairman of the Program Committee for Onam Celebrations-2010, other ministers of Kerala, Oommen Chandy, and leader of Opposition, C. Jayan Babu, Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, M.P and others.

This event followed the signing up of a Malayalam Film by Kamal Hassan after 23 years since he worked in a Malayalam Film.“It was veteran Malayalam director K. S. Sethumadhavan who initiated me into my career as a young boy. Later, I was adopted by leading Tamil director K. Balachander,I am at a loss for words to express how deeply I am indebted to Malayalis. It was they who helped me come up forgiving my shortcomings as an artiste” Kamal Haasan said.
