Actor Karthi does have the uncanny knack of delivering super-duper hit films without ever making much ado about them. The producers of Karthi’s upcoming film titled Alex Pandian have reportedly decided to ‘test’ the star’s crowd-pulling power in the ensuing festive season.
Reports emanating from Kollywood say that Karthi’s Alex Pandian is likely to have a ‘summit clash’ with the Vijay-starrer Thuppakki (the title might change as the film’s title has been challenged in the Court) at the box-office on Deepavali this year. Fans of superstar Rajinikanth have reconciled to the fact that Rajini’s much-awaited and much-delayed Kochadaiyan would only be hitting the screens on 12-12-12.
Alex Pandian has the lanky Anushka playing Karthi’s heroine; barring a brief ‘blink-and-miss’ appearance in a cop’s role that Anushka made in Karthi’s latest film Saguni, this is the first time that Karthi and Anushka have been paired on-screen. No film starring Ajith or Suriya is slated to release on Deepavali and the Karthi Vs Vijay line-up is likely to occur.
Distributors say that Karthi has got into the highest paid actors’ club in a very short time thanks to the super-duper hit film Siruthai which hit the screens early last year. Saguni didn’t create wonders at the box-office but wasn’t a losing preposition either. Efforts are on by the makers of Vijay’s Thuppakki and Karthi’s Alex Pandian to bring into their fold ‘favourite’ and ‘commercially viable’ theatres to screen their films.
The release of the two biggies on Deepavali might just result in postponement of films such as Gautham Menon’s Neethanae En Ponvasantham (NEP) which would otherwise have targeted Deepavali for releasing gin theatres. Alex Pandian is produced by Karthi’s uncle Gnanavel Raja’s Studio Green while Kalaipuli Thaanu has produced the Vijay-starrer Thuppakki.
