Jayalalitha, the chief minister of the State, took part in her first filmy event in more than 7 years yesterday when she attended the twin functions which marked the 14th anniversary of the launch of Jaya TV as well as the function to felicitate the musician duo of M.S. Viswanathan and T.K. Ramamurthy. The function was held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in the city and was attended by the ‘who’s who’ of Kollywood.
Superstar Rajinikanth and ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan were very much present on the occasion, making it memorable for the organizers as well as their fans and others who had converged in large numbers at the venue. The presence of the trio of Rajini, Kamal and Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, considered as a strong identity of Tamil films, was to ‘honour’ the presence of Amma at a film function in more than 7 years.
The dais was set up in such a manner as to remember the audience of old Tamil films. Artistes and technicians, who had worked with MSV in his prime, were invited to the Stage and honoured. Amma presented a kitty comprising 60 gold coins to MSV and TKR (to mark the 60 years of composing they had completed) and also presented shawls to them. MSV was presented a brand new Ford Fiesta car in addition and as a bonus.
Those who got up on stage and received the honour include the legendary playback singers T.M. Soundararajan, P.B. Srinivas, L.R. Eswari and many others. In the year 2005, during a function presided over by Amma, Rajini and Kamal took part and after more than 7 years, they trio were once again spotted together at an event yesterday. The security at the venue was beefed up to a high extent so as to ensure that nothing untoward happened at the venue and outside it.
MSV also conducted a mucical star-nite in the night which was well appreciated by the audience!
