At a time when even films made spending crores of money and starring big stars are not faring that well in theatres, Goli Soda, which doesn’t have any stars and was directed by a cinematographer-director Vijay Milton, has completed 50 days in theatres and has been going great guns.
Starring Kishore, Sree Raam, Pandi, Murugesh and Chandini, the grown-up teenagers who were loved by the masses as kids in Pasanga some years back, the film had music by the duo of Arunagiri and Seelin. At a time when even Vijay’s Jilla and Ajith’s Veeram weren’t scorching the box-office with their collections, Goli Soda released two weeks after the release of the above-said films and has been doing very well.
The success of the film has warmed the hearts of small-budget producers and directors. With no stars and no pre-release publicity, the film has turned out to be successful. Milton, who had cinematographed successful films such as Kaadhal and Deepavali, directed the film which was only his second film as director after the 2006 film Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu.
The script of Goli Soda is about the lives of four kids who are searching for their actual identities. Good reviews by almost all the magazines and word-of-mouth praise has resulted in the film’s success. Produced at just Rs.2 crores, the film has so far raked in more than Rs.12 crores at the box-office and is going strong even now.
