Producer-director Gautham Vasudeva Menon is gearing up for the release of his second directorial venture in Hindi titled Ek Deewana Tha (EDT). Readers might be aware that the film is the Hindi version of Menon’s super-hit Tamil film Vinnai Thandi Varuvaaya. For the Hindi version, though, Menon has opted for Bollywood’s Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson for the roles played by Simbu and Trisha in the Tamil version.
Menon is also directing Needhanae En Ponvasandham (NEP) starring Jiiva and Samantha in lead roles. Samantha, who has done a couple of films in Tamil earlier, counts a lot on NEP to find a lasting place in the hearts of Tamil youths and movie-goers. Jiiva, who has been on a high with a string of successes to his credit in recent months, is quite happy to be doing his first film under Menon’s direction.
The latest info on Menon is that he has signed up none other than Maestro Ilaiyaraaja to score music for his next film after NEP. In his decade-long career in Tamil films, Menon has worked only with two music directors: Harris Jayaraj and A.R. Rahman. As such, Menon’s decision to align himself with the ‘master of melodies’ has made his fans deliriously happy.
Music-loves would hardly dispute the fact that Ilaiyaraaja, who has scored music for close to 1,000 films, has achieved whatever there is to achieve in the world of music. He has forayed into many hitherto untread areas in his musical sojourn which has seen 36 glorious years. Many ordinary films have garnered box-office glory due to Ilaiyaraaja’s impeccable music and his lingering melodies.
With a genius and an ace director coming together, it leaves little doubt in the minds of the readers that their combination would rock like anything. Last heard, Ilaiyaraaja has also signed up a Punjabi film (remake of the Tamil hit Mounaragam) for which he’d be starting work soon!
