Distributors across the State are said to be angry and upset over actor Suriya’s act of gifting an expensive car to Vignesh Shivan, director of his Pongal-release Thaana Serndha Koottam, as they have accused the actor of attempting to ‘hide’ the film’s failure by celebrating its success and honouring the director for the ‘success’.
Suriya was paired up opposite Keerthy Suresh in the film, which was the Tamil remake of the super-hit Hindi film Special Chabbis. Karthik, Ramya Krishnan, Senthil, national award-winning actor Thambi Ramaiah, RJ Balaji and Yogi Babu formed the rest of the cast of the film which had music by Anirudh Ravichander.
Gnanavel Raja’s Studio Green had produced the film which was considered as a ‘moderate’ success though the film’s crew held the ‘success meet’ within a few days of the film’s release in theatres. Suriya gifted a brand new red Toyota to Vignesh Shivan yesterday apparently to congratulate him on the film’s success.
In the meantime, distributors who took up the film’s distribution and release, have cried foul over Suriya’s act of gifting a car to Shivan. “This is a blatant attempt to hide the film’s not-so-great showing; we incurred Rs.15 crores loss in taking up the film’s release and were planning to meet Suriya to demand compensation. We are shocked that he has now gifted a car to the director,” the distributors are fuming.
