Karnataka deputy chief minister R. Ashok laid the foundation stone yesterday for the construction of a new school at the place where superstar Rajinikanth’s school is housed at present. The school has been in dilapidated state and is beyond the repairing stage. Many requests were made by VIPs to the Govt. of Karnataka to renovate or reconstruct the School following which the construction work has now started formally.
Rajini studied at the Gavipuram Guddahalli Govt. Elementary School upto Class VII and then moved to another school. The Gavipuram School was in a very damaged state and Rajini’s fans have been trying their best to renovate/reconstruct the School which gave preliminary education to their ‘Thalaivar’. Rajini Seva Samithi in Karnataka has reportedly collected a huge sum from the public for the construction of the new building.
The local MLA from Basavanagudi reportedly played a major role in getting the Government nod to take up the construction work. Speaking at the event, Ashok said “Finally, the renovation work of the School has been taken up thanks to the efforts of senior theatre artiste Master Hiranaiyah. The School, when completed, would serve as a model of all the Govt. schools in the State. All the poor students who study here should become as famous as superstar Rajinikanth. I wish the children the best in advance.”
Former Union Ministe Ananthakumar, senior BJP leader and its general secretary, said “As Kannadigas, we are all veryproud that Rajini, who studied in this School, has become well known all over the world. The State Govt. would provide Rs.81.5 lakhs; the local MP and MLA would provide Rs.25 lakhs and Rs.20 lakhs respectively while the Bangalore Corporation would provide the remaining Rs.10 lakhs, making it a total of Rs.1.67 crores with the balance amount coming in the form of donations. Rajini should be invited to inaugurate the School when the construction is completed,” he concluded.
