It is reported from reliable quarters that despite getting some negative press before and after its theatrical releases, national award-winning actor Dhanush’s latest film Maari (which released last Friday) has been going great guns in theatres.
First-day’s take of Maari in theatres in Tamil Nadu stands at Rs.6.54 crores, which is more than what Dhanush’s last year’s super-duper hit film Velaiyilla Pattathari collected on its first day (Rs.4.45 crores). Trade pundits have been stumped by the extra-ordinary collections on the first day despite the film getting not many good reviews and its teaser creating controversy for featuring Dhanush in cigarette-smoking sequences.
Thus, Maari beats Velaiyilla Pattathari by some margin to become Dhanush’s most-collected film on first day in theatres. The weekends, pundits predict, would have drawn much stronger crowds to the theatres and the takes for the weekends would be known shortly.
It may be noted that Dhanush, who also possesses the satellite broadcasting rights of the film, can’t be happier in the present scenario. Not the ones to waste time, crew members of the film have cut cakes and celebrated the film’s success!
