The ‘title’ clash continues unabated in Kollywood; no, we are not discussing the clash between the leading actors or actresses at the box-office or elsewhere. It’s the clash to retain the various titles of their respective films by film-makers which has become the latest hot issue in the film industry, which is already besieged by problems aplenty.
Creativity appears to have taken a complete back-seat as more and more film-makers and script-writers tend to fall back upon successful films for remaking them and simply repeat the titles of hit films of the bygone era. Sundara Pandian (SP) starring Sasikumar in the lead (and which is due to hit the screen this Friday) is one such film which has been caught in the ‘title clash’.
SP has been directed by debutant S.R. Prabhakaran, a former aide of Sasikumar, who gets to display his directorial credentials for the first time on screen. The film’s audio was released some time back. When the audio-launch was held, media advertisements showed another film featuring the same title and which starred Karthick (who hasn’t been acting as active as he was some years back) in the lead was to be released again.
When asked about the title issue at the press-meet held in connection with the release of SP, Sasikumar had informed that he had taken the formal permission from the Tamil Film Producers’ Council for the title. However, Jupiter Film Makers (producers of the Karthick-starrer) filed a petition with a City Court which has now banned the Sasikumar-starrer from releasing on the said date with the same title.
It remains to be seen as to how Sasikumar plans to sort out the issue!
