Karthik Subbaraj, widely seen by critics as the next-generation director who holds a lot of promise for the future, couldn’t help it when his image took a beating as the producer of last year’s Jigarthanda spilled the beans recently on the film’s box-office showing.
Karthik has just made two films as on date: Pizza and Jigarthanda. Both the films not only won him laurels from critics but were also thought of box-office successes; however, producer of Jigarthanda (which had Siddharth and Lakshmi Menon in lead roles) has now revealed the truth saying that the film wasn’t a successful venture. He said so while replying to queries at the recently-held press-meet in connection with awarding remake rights of Jigarthanda.
However, the burly Karthik appears to be not too unperturbed by the revelation, if his activities of the past few days are any indication. As the press and others believe that Jigarthanda is a success, Karthik is said to be taking things ever-so-lightly during the shoot of his upcoming film titled Iraivi. He reportedly addresses senior artistes in the film in singular (sans respect) which hasn’t gone unnoticed by other crew members.
Moreover, Karthik’s relatives (numbering 24) have been drafted to play small roles in the film which means that the shooting spot is filled with their presence. They also surround the trio of Vijay Sethupathi, Bobby Simha and S.J. Surya who play the lead roles in the film, seeking autographs and wanting to get themselves photographed with them. The stars, who initially didn’t object to this, are said to be increasingly feeling wary of this.
