Veteran dance choreographer John Babu has gone on record saying that the task of choreographing for any song isn’t an easy one. “It’s not the job of the choreographer alone to ensure that the dance steps in a song match the mood and pace of the song; the inputs from the director and the cinematographer play a very important role in it,” he said.
John aking part in a dance reality show on a popular television channel recently spoke in detail about the taxing job of a choreographer. He also recalled his stint of several years in Kollywood and the kind of cooperation and assistance he received from all the directors and the cinematographers who had worked with him all his films.
“Choreographing for a song is as tough as the job of a director who has to ensure that each and every sequence falls in place. While choreographing, the dance director or choreographer has to take into account many aspects such as the significance of the song in the film’s context and incorporate the ideas/inputs received from the director as well as the cinematographer into the song’s dance movements.
“Fortunately for me, I had always enjoyed the confidence of all the directors I have worked with,” he concluded and recalled the days when he debuted as choreographer for a debutant Jiiva in the film Thithikkuthae several years back. The second part of John’s programme is to be broadcast on the same channel next Tuesday.
