Celebrity Cricket League gearing up for Season 2

The first Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) lived up to the promise of some high-octane entertainment and Chennai Rhinos stood out as the winner.  Now the second edition of CCL will strike to the nerves of viewers, next year 2012 in Sharjah. With six teams, 18 matches and six different venues film fraternities from across India will face each other on the pitch. The curtain raiser of the glitzy CCL Season 2 will start in Mumbai on December 19 and the matches will commence at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on January 13, 2012.

Scheduled to be held ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 5 next year, CCL 2 will see a whole lot of additions. Two new teams Kerala Strikers and Bengal Tigers, will be in action in the CCL, next year.

Kerala Strikers is co-owned by Malayalam Mega Star Mohanlal, ace director Priyadarshan and his wife Lizzy. Mohanlal will also double up as the team captain. Indrajith is a wicketkeeper batsman. Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban, Unni Mukundan, Rajiv Pillai, Vinu Mohan and Bala are some of the other stars in the team.

The Bengal Tigers is owned by actress Sridevi and her husband producer Boney Kapoor, and has Bengali actor Indraneil in the squad. Insiders inform that the Indian cricket team former captain Saurav Ganguly has agreed to mentor the ‘Bengal Tigers’.

The six teams are:

    Chennai Rhinos – lead by Sarthkumar
    Mumbai Heroes – owned by Sohail Khan and captained by Suniel Shetty
    Karnataka Bulldozers – lead by Kiccha Sudeep
    Telugu Warriors – Victory Venkatesh leads.

    Kerala Strikers – Owned by and captained by Mohanlal
    Bengal Tigers – owned by Boney Kapoor and Sridevi

Actor Suriya has been signed up as brand ambassador for the Chennai Rhinos team for the second time, Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, Genelia D’souza and Kangana Ranaut will be the brand ambassador of Mumbai Heroes team. Whereas, actress Shriya Saran and Richa  will be brand ambassador for Telegu Warriors team. Laxmi Rai and Bhavana are the Kerala Tigers team’s brand ambassadors.

There will be fifteen league matches, two semifinals and final matches played. The other venues include Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Kochi. The tournament will kick start on 13th January 2012 at Sharjah followed by the first match of the League.
