AVM shows the way for grand sets with Mudhal Idam

If there is a country-wide survey conducted as to which production houses in India is the oldest and is still making films, AVM Productions is most likely to come out on top. The production house, which has been producing films in many Indian languages for more than five decades, is always known for the huge, realistic sets in its films.

With the recent multi-media technology occupying films in a big way, the trend of erecting sets in a grand manner appears to have taken a back-seat. In the fifties and sixties when outdoor shooting was a rarity, AVM excelled in the work of erecting huge, life-like sets.

The production house recently launched a film titled ‘Mudhal Idam’ staring Vidharth (of ‘Mynaa’ fame) and a newcomer Kavitha Nair in the lead roles. Ilavarasu, Tirumurugan, Appukkutti, Yogi Devaraj and Rekha form the rest of the cast. A huge set has been erected for filming a lengthy fight sequence, which is likely to be one of the many highlights of the film.

The film is directed by newcomer Kumaran who first thought of shooting the fight sequence in and around Thanjavur but finally decided to erect a huge set inside the AVM studios. Unit sources say that this particular sequence would be the ‘talk of the town’ as and when the film releases. The film is likely to hit the screens in a couple of months’ time.
