As Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians prepared to do battle in tournament that had reached out to more fans than ever before – and created new ones across the world – could not but bit adieu without a final flourish. And to mark the occasion, the biggest names in showbiz joined hands for a fitting farewell.
As the lights went down across the stadium, suspense filled the air and a laser show lit the field up. Crisscrossing arcs of light – now green, now purple – spun a web across the ground and stands. Drum beats signalled a procession of performers who made their way to centre, dressed in CSK jerseys, circling the main stage. The familiar strains of AR Rahman’s hit, ‘Chale Chalo’, from the Oscar nominated film Lagaan emerged – followed closely by the man himself – AR Rahman. Dressed in pristine white, the Oscar and Grammy winning artiste set the tone for a truly spirited closing ceremony.
