The recently release still photographs to promote Sundar C’s upcoming directorial venture Kalakalappu were shocking to many, to say the least. Anjali, who has carved a niche for herself as an actress of substance who can do justice to any kind of role(s), and Oviya, who is widely considered by many as one of the fast and upcoming actresses of the younger brigade, have gone for a ‘sexy avatar’ in the film.
Billed as a full-length comic venture, Kalakalappu also marks the silver-jubilee of Sundar’s direction. It’s his 25th film as a director and has also become a film on which distributors and exhibitors are willing to bank on to make money as and when the film is released in theatres. The stills show both Anjali and Oviya going in for an ‘image makeover’ and revealing their mid-riffs in plenty.

Santhanam, the comedian who has been making rapid strides in the recent past thanks to the continual abasence of Vadivelu and the not-so-busy phase of another comedian Vivekh in Tami films, reportedly plays a significant role in the film. His fans are still savouring his performance in the film Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (OKOK) which released almost a month back and has been going strong ever since.
Sundar, who has made many blockbuster movies in the past including Ullathai Allithaa and superstar Rajinikanth’s Arunachalam, has almost mastered the art of making a ‘perfect entertainer’ which brings in good returns at the box-office. Titled as Masala Café earlier, the film has been renamed as Kalakalappu. Talking about his film, Sundar C says that he never ‘compelled’ his heroines to go glamourous.
“The glamour of the heroines in the film won’t border on vulgarity or obscenity. It’d be glamourous but won’t be disliked by any. The moment Anjali and Oviya heard the script, they decided that it’d be better for them to go glamourous to suit their characters in the film,” says Sundar. The film is releasing all over the State this Friday (11th May).
