Kamal Haasan and Ajith Kumar are likely to be the leading contenders who would be vying for honours during this year’s Deepavali.
It was announced some time back by producers of Kamal Haasan’s Thoongavanam that the film would be releasing four days ahead of Deepavali (which falls on Tuesday) to release in theatres on the traditional Friday before Deepavali. It now appears that Ajith Kumar’s upcoming film (untitled so far) directed by Veeram fame Siva would also be releasing on the same day to clash with Kamal Haasan’s psycho-thriller.
Kamal Haasan’s Thoonavanam, produced as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu (Cheekati Rajyam in Telugu) by S. Chandrahasan, marks the directorial debut of his long time aide Rajesh M. Selva. With music by Kamal’s favourite M. Ghibran and with a star cast having Trisha, Asha Sarath, Prakash Raj, Kishore, Sampath Raj, Uma Riyaz Khan and Yugi Sethu and Madhu Shalini, the film has received positive pre-release reviews.
Dhanush’s Velaiyilla Pattathari 2, sequel to his last year’s super-duper hit film Velaiyilla Pattathari, is to release on Deepavali. The interest in trade circles is to see how Ajith, who has a record of a ‘great opening’ at the time of all of his films released in the recent past, performs at the box-office in the face of ‘opposition’ from Kamal Haasan-starrer!
