Actor Ganesh Babu turns director with Yamuna

Actor Ganesh Babu, who has starred in films such as Bharathi, Autograph, Mozhi, Sivakasi and Ananthapurathu Veedu, turns director with a film titled Yamuna which is produced by Balaji Movies. The actor has finally given vent to his directorial instincts which had been urging him to turn director. Babu speaks elaborately about his first film and how he turned director.

“I’m from the agricultural district of Thanjavur and had been penning and acting in many stage plays. I came to Kollywood mainly to beome a director and joined as assistant director with Ilaiya Bharathy who directed Thenpandisingam. Even as I was toiling to get my first chance as a director, I got offers to star in films and continued to act even though not a single day passed without me itching to get behind the mega-phone.

“Finally, due to the Almighty’s grace, I’m turning diretor with Yamuna, which is my dream script. Criticisms are ready to be hurled when an actor becomes a director and not when a director becomes an actor. I have carefully fine-tuned the script of the film, which has the many social evils afflicting our polity as its backdrop. I talk about the many number of Indians who are deproved of clothing, food, education, shelter and basic medical facilities.

“The typical Indian mentality of siding with the political outfit which assures them all the above-said facilities is also referred to in the film. Romance is inter-woven in the script. Sathya, a student of veteran director Balumahendra, is making his debut as hero in the film. Sriramya, who has won the national award for ‘best actress’ in a Telugu film, is the heroine of the film who is also an expert in various dance forms such as Salsa and Samba,” concludes Babu.

Others in the cast are Vinodhini (of Engeyum Eppodhum fame), Narain and Sams. Vairamuthy has penned all the lyrics in the film which has music by Ilakkiyan. The film is cinematographed by Chidambaram while Lenin takes care of the editing. The film is likely to be shot in and around Kumbakonam, Thanjavur and Trihy. Song sequenes are likely to be shot abroad.
