Remember the super-duper song Vandha Naal Mudhal Indha Naal Varai…. from the super-duper hit film Paava Mannippu? The song, which featured the late and legendary Sivaji Ganesan lip-synching for the song, was one of the greatest all-time hits of the actor as well as for playback singer T.M. Soundararajan. Old timers might even recall that TMS was even known as the ‘voice’ of MGR and Sivaji Ganesan.
The opening few lines would be whistled and hummed by the actor in the above-said song sequence. Probably inspired by the whistling in this song, a debutant music director has attempted to compose an entire song by not setting music to lyrics but by composing the song via whistling sound!
The novelty has been included in the film of director Nanda Periyasamy’s Azhagan Azhagi which has music by a debutant named Kannan. Kannan has not only scored the music but has also pitched in with his non-stop whistling while composing the song.
Though the film has songs by a horde of lyricists in the form of Naa Muthukumar, Kabilan, Vivegaa, Brindha Sarathy and Karunanidhi, it’s anybody’s guess as to who among them would have ‘penned’ the lyrics for this ‘whistling’ song!
