Produced under UTV’s umbrella, Prabhu Deva’s – Anybody Can Dance finally released to a successful reception from crowds in north India. Touted to be India’s first 3D dance movie it has already covered its production cost of Rs 12 crores as its opening day collections amounted to Rs.5.5 crore. Add to it Saturday’s and Sunday’s collections of Rs.6.5 crore and Rs.7.5 crore respectively, you can see why it is an easy win for the producers.
The facts also state its five day domestic run has already generated Rs 26.25 crores in total. Happy by the response, Gaurav Verma, director – India theatrical distribution, Studios, Disney UTV, says “We have received an overwhelming response for ‘ABCD…’ across India and it is doing extremely well everywhere. Viewers are enjoying the film, they are whistling, dancing inside the auditoriums. Even with limited 3D screens in India, the film has collected exceptionally well all over,”
In addition, the lead actress of the flick and an earlier winner of the US dance reality show, So You Can Think You Can Dance, Season 3 – Lauren Gottlieb echoed similar views as she remarked “GREAT NEWS!! #ABCD breaks the record in India cinema to hold the strongest opening for a new comer cast!”
Meanwhile, Prabhu expects a similar turnover from his home crowd too. The chief of UTV movies in the South – Dhananjayan Govind mentioned recently on his micro blogging site “ABCD is censored with U/A in Tamil & will be releasing on 15th. Do catch up in 3D for better impact. A must watch”
