Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s fans in Chennai conducted a protest in front of Devi Theater Complex, Anna Salai, Chennai to request the theater owners to screen their hero’s forthcoming flick ‘Velayudham’ which is hitting the screens on the eve of Deepavali(October 26, 2011). Devi Theater Complex, one of the biggest cinema halls in Chennai(with 4 theatres Devi, Devi Bala, Devi Kala and Devi Paradise,), is said not to be screening Velayudham at any of it’s theaters. It is worth mentioning that Suriya’s 7aam Arivu, another Deepavali release is scheduled to be screened in two big screens Devi and Devi Paradise.
Following this a group of Vijay fans staged an agitation holding the flags of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam and requested the theater owner to release the film at least in either of the theaters Devi or Devi Paradise. They’ve also written a leter to the management which is signed by 2000 fans.
Velayudham has got 38 screens in Chennai, including Sathyam, Santham, Screw, Inox, Woodlands and Sangam Cinema. It is said that the film would have released in more theatres if Surya’s 7aam Arivu was not hitting the screens at the same time.
