Today July 23rd stands as a day of celebration for millions of Suriya fans, not only in Tamil Nadu but all across the world. Fans will remember that his last birthday was celebrated at the 7aam Arivu sets in Coimbatore and this one too celebrated at his Maatraan camp with director KV Anand, Kajal Agarwal and the rest of the crew. Nevertheless our birthday boy is delighted and says it’s the best gift he can receive. “There’s no feeling that can come close to shooting on your birthday!” quips the star with his ever cheerful smile.
His magnetic personality, bold looks and ever spirited efforts have only helped Suriya reach greater heights throughout his wonderful filmy career. As the candles on the cake count a 36 this year for the star actor, let’s take a brief flashback into those glorious years.
His debut in the Mani Ratnam production Nerrukku Ner in 1997 still holds a memorable place in the hearts of ardent Surya fans. He acted in the comedy flick Friends in 2001, but it was Bala’s Nandha that gave the real break for the star actor playing the young man returning from a juvenile jail. His acting also won him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor that year. There was no looking back from then on as he followed with a string of hits. We saw him in the 2003 hit Gautham Menon movie Kaakha Kaakha playing the police officer, then in Pithamagan playing the comical village guy. His psychological act in Ghajini, and the multi-faceted role in Vaaranam Aayiram all hold true for the fact that “versatility is Surya forte.” Many more hits followed with Ayan, Aadhavan, and box office grosser Singham and we also witnessed the star marking his Bollywood debut with Raktha Charithra in 2010.
Surya’s real life character has been an inspiration for the youth of the country too, making them aware of the harmful effects of smoking and urging them to kick the ‘butt’. His humble ways, gentleman looks and involvement in various relief activities for the weaker sections of the society have earned him good wishes from both young and old. While his Singham Hindi remake is doing the rounds this weekend we only wish ‘namma’ Surya has all the reason’s to keep his spirits soaring high.
May this birthday offer you as much joy and happiness as you have given to each and every one of us. We at Kollytalk wish you a ‘Happy 36’ Surya.
