Kamal Hassan – The Great Indian Phenomenon, is considered one of the most gifted actors of this era.
This ‘Ulaganayagan‘ has spent a half-century under the arc lights and has acted in over 200 films in several Indian languages. He has won three National Awards for Best Actor(Nayagan, Moondram Pirai, and Indian),one for Best Child Artist and has been decorated with the Padma Shri.
While Beatles were making music and Vietnam was at war with US and the hippies in Haight Ashbury were doing freak-outs, Kamal made his screen debut with Kalathur Kannamma produced by AVM production at the age of six and it won him the first National Award for Best Child Artist. He followed it with appearances as a child actor in movies that featured MGR, Sivaji Ganesan and Gemini Ganesan.
For Kamal, normal is boring. New make-up, looks and roles have always fascinated this versatile actor. He has experimented with every conceivable role and is always striving to extend the parameters of cinematic expression, managing to make them tick at the box office too.
His last release was the 2010 Tamil film Manmadhan Ambu. His ongoing project ‘Vishwaroopam’ is touted to be an action thriller.
