Veteran director Bharathiraja launched his dream project Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum (AK) on November 17 at his native place in Theni District. The director, who was instrumental in re-writing the history of Tamil cinema in the mid-seventies, launched the movie on his own unique style.
The muhurat of the film held at 11:00 a.m. today in front of the Veerappa Ayyanar Temple in Theni. Veteran director K. Balachandar, ace directors Balu Mahendra and Maniratnam, and Kaviyarasu Vairamuthu were the chief guests at the event. In his inimitable style, he had invited all artistes, technicians and others connected with the film to attend the launch of the film.
All the actors who got introduced by Bharathiraja and those who were the assistants to him honoured by the director himself. Radha(debuted in Alaigal Oivathillai), K Bhagyaraj (former assistant),Napoleon(debuted in Pudhu Nellu Pudhu Naathu), Suganya(debuted in Puthu Nellu Puthu Naathu), Khushboo, Vignesh(debuted in Kizhakku Cheemayile) were among those who attended the event.
It may be recalled that actor-director Parthiban, who was to play the lead role in the film, is now out of the film. Director-actor Ameer, who contested against Bharathiraja during the elections to elect the president of the Directors’ Association a few months back, has been roped in to replace Parthiban. Incidentally, Parthiban is a protégé of K. Bhagyaraj, who himself was an assistant director under Bharathiraja at one time.
As we reported in these columns, Iniya of Vaagai Sooda Vaa fame and Karthika, daughter of actress Radha, have been signed up to play the lead roles in the film. GV Prakash Kumar has roped in to compose the music for the film.
